Sowing the Seeds Music & Lifestyle Festival

Living in the city can become boring and monotonous. I often feel like I spend my free time doing the same old, same old. Its always a combination of visiting a restaurant to go eat out, maybe a market if I’d like be outdoors and going shopping. I don’t need to mention that it gets boring very quickly! Variety isn’t one the concrete jungle’s strengths, so I’ve actively taken an interest in exploring Johannesburg and trying to find her secret, hidden gems. It’s the City of Gold, so I know there are hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered. Even if I need to grab a shovel and mine them myself. This has forced me to look at the city I’ve called home all my life from a different perspective. I try look at Joburg like I’m a tourist visiting from out of town, instead of someone who lives here. What would someone visiting Johannesburg want do, where would they want to go and what would they want to experience?
If you are just like me and you’re looking for something different to do, why not head out the the Sowing the Seeds Music and Lifestyle Festival happening this Saturday, 2nd April 2016 at Emmerentia Dam, Johannesburg? Started in Cape Town in 2008 as a teaser event to the hugely popular Rocking the Daisies Music and Lifestyle Eco Festival, Sowing the Seeds is a boutique festival which promises a fun filled afternoon, packed with melodic indie, funk and alternative beats, an electric vibe and delicious food and drinks. This year the festival is headlined by Of Monsters and Men, and Jungle. Supporting acts include BCUC, December Streets and Matthew Mole. I must admit, I’m often so jealous of the outdoor events Capetonians have an excess of. It seems like there’s something happening at Kirstenbosch Garden every other weekend, so it’s nice to see that Joburg can rock out too and we have events to allow us to enjoy the last few weekends of sunny warmth.

About the Look

When dressing for an outdoor event, I prioritise functionality over and above anything else. I want to be comfortable enough to dance around and move, sit on the grass and lie down, but also look cute and laid back. I’m super clumsy too, so anything in white or that shows stains easily is a big no. I knew I didn’t want anything too restrictive and complex to get in and out of as well. A t-shirt dress is the definition of simple, uncomplicated and effortless style. This particular one is fashioned out of breathable material so it is perfect for a day spent outdoors. I paired my dress with a pair of matching Air Max’s because… comfort. If I plan on being on my feet for the afternoon, I better make sure my feet are in comfortable, supportive and durable sneakers. You don’t get more support than an air cushioned pair of Air Max’s. I absolutely adore the dark grey and bright gold leaf colour combination on these sneakers. It adds a fun and unexpected pop of colour. To accessorise my look I opted for a khaki green, lightweight parka to throw over my dress because the weather is so unpredictable lately. You need to be ready for a little chill and lots of sun too, so an edgy flat brimmed hat was added to my arson against the heat.
