BEAUTY | Simple Summer Makeup Updates

My makeup skills are mediocre, average at best. I have my brows mico-bladed (link) so I don't have to worry about filling them in every day myself, I still haven’t mastered my highlight and contour even though I’ve spent many a night camping out on my favourite beauty vlogs to try and get it right and I cannot apply my own false lashes. Average as I may be, I still enjoy playing around with makeup to compliment different outfits. Usually, I’ll play around with my lipstick while keeping the rest of my face basically the same. This summer I decided to break out of my comfort zone and try to update my usual beauty routine. These are my summer makeup updates for girls who are average at doing their makeup.

Red Winged Liner

I spotted this look on Draya Michele's Instagram in December and I knew I had to try it out. It looked simple and easy to do, so I gave it shot. Deep red lipstick instantly uplifts a look so I was keen to see what red wing liner would do. I decided to keep my face glowing in shades of bronze and nude. I'm so accustomed to wearing black liner but red compliments the brown shade of my eyes and is an unexpected, subtle pop of colour.

To achieve this look I used:
  • Revlon Colorstay Foundation in Toast
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Duo Brush No#12
  • MAC Retro Matte Lipcolour in Dance with Me

Green Liner

Inspired by Edward Enninful's first cover at the helm of British Vogue featuring Adowa Aboah. The cover is a nod to a retro glamour which features Aboah wearing blue and turquoise eyeshadow, bleached eyebrows and red lipstick. For a more wearable spin on the look, I decided to try green liner on my lower lash line with black liner on the top.

To achieve this look I used
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Waterfresh Foundation in Rich Caramel and Bronze
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Emerald Volt

Blue Mascara

When I was invited to the Secret Sunrise event hosted by Estee Lauder to launch the Double Wear Nude Waterfresh Foundation range, one of the ladies from Estee Lauder was wearing blue mascara. It looked amazing on her, but I wasn’t sure it would work on me. I took a chance anyway and decided to buy blue mascara and figure out how to make it work. I wear it on my bottom lashes with white liner on my waterline and black mascara on my top lashes
