STYLE | Summer 2021 Must Haves

My favourite season of the year is fast approaching and I’m anticipating summer 2021 more than ever. I’m ready to start stepping out more, I’m ready to have more of a social life (so invite me out!) and I’m ready to spend more time out in the streets than in my apartment. And by “streets” I mean the 30+ version… restaurants and vineyards!

I’m a big proponent of wearing what you want, and what makes you feel good, (there really are no rules to fashion) so this isn’t a definitive guide on what to wear this summer, but merely a peak into what I’m looking forward to wearing and adding to my wardrobe. Comment down below and let me know what you’re excited to wear from this list or if you think I’ve left something out that you think deserves a mention.

Pastels

I’m starting off with the most abstract thing thing on my list, sorbet pastel tones. I am usually a neutral girl but lately I’ve been trying to add colour into my wardrobe by incorporating yummy looking pastel tones. Think hues of mint green, lavender, soft pink and peach. You can either make a statement by going head to toe in a monochromatic pastel shade, do a fun colour block with different shades of pastel or start off slow like I did in these images and pair a pastel with a neutral tone like white, beige or cream. This is versatile because you’re not limited to a single piece or style and can wear this in anyway you choose.

Bucket hats

I know this is not everyones cup of tea, but protect yourself from UVA/B rays and add a casual twist to your look with a cute bucket hat. Traditionally they’re worn in a sporty way, but nowadays you can accessorise almost any look with a cute brimmed hat. This seasons bucket hats range from smaller brimmed to wide brimmed feminine varieties with chin straps. You can go the momogrammed designer hat route or got for something more understated and subtle.

Statement sunglasses

Sunglasses are by far my favourite summer accessory to elevate a look. This summer the more out there and bold the shape of the shades the better. I’m talking dramatic cat eyes, oversized, fun colours, mirrored lenses or tinted ones. Sunglasses are a great way to complete your summer look. I’ve been obsessed with this stark white pair from Loewe for years so I’m excited to finally add them to my collection

Oversized blazer in a light colour

I’m still very much into oversized blazers whether they are boxy boyfriend style, or feminine and have an exaggerated waist. This season, however I’m looking to invest in a lighter shade. Mix two of my suggestions together by getting a pastel shade or cream colour blazer in lightweight fabric like linen or a soft cotton. I usually struggle to find great oversized blazers so I just size up 2 – 3 sizes on regular fit blazers or visit the mens section for a true mens style cut.

Midriff baring dresses

I love a good dress because it easy to wear and style. You basically have your whole outfit sorted out and all you need to worry about are accessories and shoes. This season I’m excited to wear midi and maxi dresses with interesting cut out details around the waist area. Dresses with side cut outs are flattering no matter what your shape because it carves out a smaller waist on you and gives the illusion of an hourglass frame. If you’re not comfortable baring too much skin you can choose a dress with subtle slits as opposed to large cutouts or an open back.
